Starting to want a new keyboard, don't like the tinny sound on mine and would really like to find an electric keyboard that feels more like an acoustic piano.
I need to be able to practice on it with headphones, and would like it to have drums (different rhythm styles ) on it. I currently have a a Yamaha Portable Grand DGX -500. Anyone have any ideas on an instrument that would have a better feel and sound?

I have not kept up with the newest keyboards cause I like what I have. But my 2 cents is that I think Yamaha's have the best feel over all. As far as which one, I would suggest visiting a music store near you to try them.
Remember this, cause this is kind of where they 'get you': If you are going to use this "live" for gigs or whatnot, make sure you try it through an amp. The amp does a lot to change the sound of the keyboard. If the keyboard sounds great through headphones, it might only sound great running stereo through and amp.

Go to piano world.com, then user forums, then to the digital piano forum, you'll find many threads on new keyboards and those guys are up on all the new models. First you decide your budget, then try out many keyboards.
Always negotiate the price.
I had a Yamaha ypg 635 and it was nice but I decided to upgrade since I don't have an acoustic. Based on the PW posts and trying many keyboards, and doing tons of research, I sold my YPG and bought a Roland FP7F which is fantastic and has a beautiful grand piano voice, plus many other features.
Several of us on PW went for that. I love the touch, response, and warmth of the Rolands. The Yamahas, including the acoustics, have a much brighter sound which can be better for jazz, according to some, but I want something that is also good for classical, and my keyboard is. There are quite a few Kawaii fans on PW, and for a small budget, the Casios have some supporters onPW.
