Hi There,
What are the correct fingerings for all the major scales? I did catch the bit about not using your thumb or pinkie on the black notes. However, this is holding me up a little; I don’t want to start developing a bad technique which could damage my hands.
What fingerings should I be using?
Thanks Gaz.

I can't seem to edit my post? it's the left hand and right hand fingerings over two octaves of the major scale. I am fine with the C Major fingering, just need the others?
Thanks.

There are two good sources for the major scale fingerings that I have found so far.
One is Hanons, which ,incidentally , also has all the minor scale fingerings as well.
The other is "The Piano Jazz Book" by Levine.
Sorry Willie..is this Ok to mention other books on your forum? If not, feel free to drop this reply...

Thanks Brian,
I've just gone back over the warm-up exercises and realised that C,D,E,G and A all share the same fingering; this should keep me busy for a while :)
On the minor fingerings, I imaging these can be the major fingerings based on the minor 3rd of the scale, such as Am, Cmajor fingering?

No problem posting the book Brian. I'll add a link to it in the resources section soon as well.
As far as the minor fingering, they will mirror the Maj scale fingering as well.
Here are a few fingerings:
C Maj:
1-2-3-1-2-3-4-5 (RH)
5-4-3-2-1-3-2-1 (LH)
C min (C-D-Eb-F-G-Ab-Bb-C)
1-2-3-1-2-3-4-5 (RH)
5-4-3-2-1-3-2-1 (LH)

No problem.
Would anyone here like me to do a video detailing every Major and minor scale with proper fingering 2-octaves?
I could also add the Blues and Altered scales as well.
thoughts?

That would be great :)
I am working on a Jean Luc Ponty track at the moment called Mirage. The track is in F Major/Dm so the fingerings would be great. Some of the chords in the fushion tracks sound great; these sound a little different than the voicing covered in the tutorials? Another good example of this would be a track by Pat Metheney called, "are you going with me".
This also brings me onto another question about fingering; on one of the tutorials you talk about using the correct fingering where-ever you start on a scale. So, in the key of C Major, if you started on A you would start with your middle finger? and also if you were playing A aoliean, you would also start the scale with your middle finger on A?

Yes, that would be great! In addition, you could think about a L.H. comp for each scale and a scale sequence that could use the comp to move from scale to scale!
Thanks!
