Hi Willie,

The C13 chord below I believe is correct, but I can't seem to figure out what to call the first chord below. At first I had this confused with a C13 chord, but I don't think it is. The difference is the 3rd and the 11th. Thanks!

Root in the left hand and a 4 note voicing in the right.

C?
C / Bb-D-E-A
R / b7-9-3-13

C13
C / Bb-D-F-A
R / b7-9-11-13

Hello again Willie,

I think I found the answer....

Rootless C Dominant 7th Chord Form B.

My question above originated while playing around with some of the concepts from the DVD 701-703 series. When I watched the DVD 703 lesson titled "Minor and Dominant 7th Rootless Voicings", I found the answer to my question above at the point 3:45. For some reason, the Form B confused me when adding that 13th and had me thinking it was a C13th chord. I think I got it now hopefully.

Thanks,

Jim

Hey Jim,

C13
C / Bb-D-F-A
R / b7-9-11-13

is actually a C7sus4 with an added 13th.

Since you have the 11th, you would not call it a Dominant 7th because a dom7 NEEDS to have a natural third (E in this case) and a flatted seventh (Bb)

Make sense?
