Hello Willie,

I can't thank you enough for the fantastic lesson on basslines and Chameleon. Playing with both hands together as explained in the lessons is truly a brain twister....laugh. I think it took me about 30 minutes to get the bassline and one of the 4 note patterns down so that my hands could actually play together in time. Then after another 20-30 minutes, both hands were dancing as they should be and boy was it a thrill. There's a natural high when you feel yourself groovin' nicely in the pocket. It's quite a addictive. I'm looking forward to expanding the patterns and being able to sit down more naturally with both hands doing their own thing. The Chameleon lesson is the ideal Funk lesson with regards to having both hands doing almost completely different things. It's a lot of fun, but challenging of course.

My goal is to try and get a video put together by next month of myself playing my own Chameleon variation. It'll probably be simple, but will definitely exhibit progress in my playing.

Thanks very much,

Jim

Ditto, Great idea for a funk lesson. Back in the 70s, my jazz combo used to cover this tune A-lot. I was a guitar player back then. I never dreamed I could learn this lick as a solo piano improv piece. I look forward to mastering this lesson.

Hi Jim, I completely agree. Funk is not really "my thing" but I find the funk lessons extremely helpful non-the-less. It's like an advanced etude or exercise for technique, hand coordination, rhythm, and more. They are hard (for me!) but the time spent working out the grooves is well worth it. I also need more work on my left hand so this is a pretty challenging lesson, but it is rewarding to actually see your own improvement. Thanks for sharing
