Hi Willie and everyone,

I'm new and I see that the Lesson Club is getting started as well which is cool. I thought I would post a few ideas for future features that might be beneficial for everyone at some point.

A couple of ideas I have are regarding the idea of "Inspiration" versus "Output". I just recently read a very interesting article about a research study with artist such as us musicians. It claims that artists progress and create better artwork when they place themselves in an environment where "Output" is stressed rather than just playing based on "Inspiration". I thought this was interesting and it made me think about my own practice routines and activities I participate in.

So a couple of ideas that might be cool that would build upon Inspiration and help us to produce more output might be the following.

1. Create a Forum for MP3 or Midi File Submission. - Show people what you have accomplished in the lessons or variations of what you learned. This would allow one to create output with something you've learned.

2. Perhaps Willie wouldn't mind having a Forum where he gives members assignments. Now I know Willie is busy and I wouldn't want to take away his efforts in providing new and fresh material, but I thought just an assignment that would inspire members to create output and post to the forum for people to strictly listen too. I'm not talking critique here but only for a sense of accomplishment...thus output!

For example, suppose an assignment might be to play one of the lesson songs, exercises, or solos. Members could work towards accomplishing the lesson task and then post a link to an MP3 or Midi file for Willie and others to see that you successfully completed the assignment. It also might be interesting for Willie and members to get an idea what others sound like if interested.

Another example might for Willie to assign a Bass/Chord part with the left hand and an assignment might be to create a Solo with the right for submission. Imagine listening to other member ideas about what they created for their solos. It might be fun to listen to others jamming on the same chord progression. This wouldn't be a contest, but rather an opportunity for members to express their creative output.

Perhaps ambitious at this time..maybe. However, I just thought I'd post some ideas for future thought. There may be future musicians out there without bands looking to create some output for people to listen to. Giving yourself a goal, task, challenge, assignment or whatever you want to call it may help in boosting your level of output as a musician.

Just food for thought.

Thanks!

Jim

Jim those are great ideas!

I am working on a "syllabus" that will help provide more structure to the lessons. But I do like the idea of a "upload your song" area.

I have another project where I need to implement the upload stuff, so let me see if I can add it here too.

That sounds like a brilliant idea. There have been so many times that I've hit a milestone, only to turn around and find I'm the only one to have witnessed it. It would be so nice to have an uploading option, not for judgement, but for a sense of accomplishment. Also it would allow positive comparisons of progress.
