Willie,

I really appreciate what you are doing on the site overall but... most of the stuff you are showing ,as far as song choices, are not very relevant to modern church. Now I am not talking about the teaching, just the song choices. I want to hear you do some stuff that would be played on a Sunday morning in most contemporary churches. The reason I say this is because I want to play some new stuff in church that I learned from this site soon. I think other people do also.

Now, if I could be so presumptious to suggest some heavy contemporary stuff, I would start with some Israel Houghton or Israel and New Breed songs. I like the fast stuff and the ballads so I don't care which direction you go but I think he would be a good start.

Please don't take this as a personal attack on what you are doing, I think everything is great. I just think in this area "Gospel Jazz" you might try to get a little more contemporary because artists like Israel has a heavy jazz thread througout his music.

Thanks,
Barry

Hi Barry,

thanks for your post. I do not think of it as a personal attack at all. In fact, I need students, like yourself, to tell me what songs are relevant to them. I'll check out those artists and get some of it on the site early 2010. Thanks again

Barry, I LOVE that New Breed stuff!! Israel is great.

I will add this as a lesson for February. I was thinking of "Power of One" or "Every Prayer" off his new album. Do you have a favorite or another selection?

So, look for this more contemporary sound in Feb's lesson.

Thanks for hipping me to them!

Hello,

I'm new to Gospel Jazz and this is the first time I've heard of Israel Houghton. I enjoy checking out artists new to me so it was fun doing a bit of research on Youtube. I found this unplugged version of "Power of One" that sounded really cool. Great stuff!
