Willie: most of the playing I do (and I am sure others in this particular forum) occurs in church. There doesn't seem to be a lot of music written with an abundance of 7ths and so the opportunity for improv on what we have been learning is not as much used there.

There are two things I would like to request.

One... I have been listening to a lot of music where piano is accompanying some of the greats like Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and so forth. (Music from the Big Band era.) This piano style has a lot of jazz feel but seems to be 'tinkling around' in the upper registers and so does not conflict with the main soloist. I have also noticed that type of piano accompanying sax, guitar or trumpet etc. Could you do a session on 'accompanying with a jazz feel' and still have creative license to apply some or most of what we have learned here when used in a not so jazz situation?

Two... still in the area of accompanying; I play for a worship team at church (piano and guitar are the only instruments) and when I try to substitute some of these ideas, they can clash with the vocal parts. I try my best to put as much in and still have it fit. I work mostly at counter melody etc. (say there's another subject!!)
Are there any upper structure triads that go with 'other than 7th chords'? Like good old major or minor. I know the basic ones, but to have a little more creativity would be wonderful.
I am going to try to put up a couple of basic video links of my playing in the Critiquing Thread. Maybe that would help to show where I am at.

Thank you so much for this forum.
It has been a long time in my search for something like this.
